FAQs

What are your fees?

My fees are £50 per hourly video/phone session or email session. Payment is expected 24 hours before your session or sent with your email response. Payment is currently via bank transfer but hopefully I will be able to process online payments via the website soon too.

Do you offer any discounts for students or low income?

I understand therapy can be costly, we can discuss prices and I do have limited availability for concessions.

How often should I have a session?

For Video and Phone call sessions, usually we start with weekly sessions. Consistency can have an impact on your overall progress. Some clients move on to fortnightly or monthly sessions when they feel ready. For Email and Text messaging the frequency is determined by how quickly we both respond, within the terms of the contract.

How long does therapy take to feel better?

This is one of the most common questions I get asked, but unfortunately a hard one to answer. Some clients feel they only require sessions for a short time, and start to feel improvements around 6-8 sessions, where as others prefer to work with me long term, reducing their sessions down to fortnightly or monthly for regular “check-ins” after initially working weekly for some time. I’ve always based my work on what the client needs, offering flexibility and regular reviews. I have had clients successfully using therapy on both sides of the scale, some only needing a couple of sessions and others working with me for years.

What happens if the internet cuts out?

We will have a backup form of communication we are unable to have a session, and can continue the session via another mode - for example telephone call if we cannot videocall, or we can reschedule.

How is my information kept safe?

I am a member of the ICO and abide by their rules and regulations when it comes to data polices. My notes are kept offline and are securely locked away. Your personal details are kept separate from any session notes. Session notes are coded so you cannot be identified by these. You have the right to access your notes at any time and they will be stored for 7 years after your sessions finish.

You have a responsibility to ensure your devices are up to date with anti-virus and anti-malware programmes, using passwords and other security measures where appropriate. For more information and copy of my data policy please feel free to contact me.

What is the difference between a counsellor and a therapist?

these terms are used interchangeably by both professionals and the public, often is is down to preference. I do describe myself as a counsellor and psychotherapist as that is what my qualification permits me to say. I trained in person-centred counselling which is based on treating every client as an individual and is a core value of mine, however I would describe myself as working with a variety of techniques dependent of what my client needs at that time. This eclectic approach enables me to individualise my work and provide a personalised service.

What if Therapy doesn’t work for me?

If you have never had any form of therapy before I understand it can be daunting. Sometimes the style of therapy may not be the right fit for you, or maybe the therapist isn’t the right one for you! Its important to know you are able to make changes at any time. You may start with one style of therapy like email therapy, then feel like you’d prefer video sessions, I am happy to provide a combination of session styles or switch to what you would prefer at any time. If you feel like I am not right for you I am happy to help find you that perfect therapist for your journey. Therapy is a very individual thing and its essential we find the correct combination for you.

What if I cannot make a session or miss a session?

If an emergency comes up, let me know as soon as possible, but we will aim to rearrange for a time that’s convenient for us both. If you need to change a session for any reason, I ask for 24 hours notice and we will rearrange. Unfortunately if a session is missed without an extenuating circumstance and I haven’t had 24 hours notice that you needed to change the session, you may be charged a late cancelation fee.

How do I book a session?

Simply reach out and contact me! You can book a Introductory session via the scheduling page Start Today or email me with times and dates that work for you. After sessions we would usually book in your next session straight away to ensure you get the time slot you want.
